Argentina Legalizes Same Sex Marriage

On July 21st, President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner signed a new law, making Argentina the first country in Latin America to legalize marriage for same-sex couples. Argentina's President championed the cause and strongly condemned the language used by Argentina's religious conservatives.

To celebrate this momentous advance we ask you to take a moment to let your elected officials know you support marriage for LGBT couples in Washington State and to share this e-mail with your friends and family. Together we will work not only to establish marriage equality in Washington State, but to make sure the federal government provides gay and lesbian couples with the federal protections they provide to heterosexual married couples.

To achieve marriage equality in Washington State it will be necessary to engage our family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and faith communities in our work. Hopefully when you forward this e-mail the recipients will take action, but even if they are not yet supportive of marriage equality, they will know you care. Perhaps that will increase their desire to learn more about the lives of gay families and why marriage equality would benefit all of society.
