Health Care Reform and You

GSBA has been meeting with a representative from the Small Business for Secure Health Care Coalition to learn more about the health care plans being addressed in Congress. This Coalition supports a health plan that would ensure that small businesses could afford to cover their employees with quality and affordable health insurance.

After a lot of research, the Washington Small Business for Secure Health Care Coalition, made up of over 1000 small businesses in Washington State, has come out in support of a public option which would compete with private insurers to lower costs and keep the industry honest. Studies show that a strong public option could save small businesses 20-30 percent on premiums.

GSBA knows that not all of our members agree on which health plan is best for small business, but we do know that health care is increasingly expensive for us all. Therefore, we are letting our membership know, that if you support a public option, there is an opportunity to have your voice heard.

Next week, the Coalition will deliver a petition from small business owners to U.S. Senator Cantwell supporting health care reform that includes a public option. The Washington Small Business for Secure Health Care Coalition suggests:

If you're a small business owner, please sign the petition now! You can also call Senator Cantwell and ask her to help small businesses by supporting a strong public option in health care reform. Click here to call Senator Cantwell now!

GSBA, as your business chamber, will continue to send you information about health care reform and what you can do to bring about important health care reform for you, your family and your business.
